Greencity is a developing organization dedicated to the enhancement of the
human environment in smaller communities.
Its founders,
Douglas Detling and Manuela Ramos Detling, have moved from El Centro, California
(a friendly city
of nearly 40,000 residents that faces tremendous challenges in the 21st Century)
to Medford--the commercial center of Southern Oregon. Doug became Human
Resources Director for Medford in January 2000.
Our objective at Greencity is to help emerging communities avoid mistakes made
elsewhere by cities facing economic uncertainties, growth pressures and environmental
constraints. We plan to focus on projects that help beautify communities,
promote family values including an appreciate for family histories, support educational enrichment, and promote cost-effective environmental
protection. We use the philosophy of volunteerism, and not commercialism.
All proceeds from the Greencity web site are used to support
these efforts.
Greencity shares its operating philosophy with the World Future Society: "Think
Globally, Act Locally."
